Dr David McCann

Strategic Political Analyst 

David McCann is Strategic Political Analyst at Brown O’Connor Ireland, providing political analysis, insight and strategic advice to private, public and third sector organisations.

He brings extensive experience of politics, public policy, elections and political communications, helping organisations understand the political landscape, interpret emerging trends and assess the implications of political and electoral developments for their priorities.

Alongside his role at Brown O’Connor Ireland, David is the host of Stormont Sources, one of Northern Ireland’s leading political podcasts, where he provides weekly analysis of political developments and interviews senior political figures and commentators. The podcast attracted more than 250,000 listens in its first year.

David is also a columnist with The Irish News and has served as Deputy Editor of Slugger O’Toole since 2014. He has extensive experience as an election analyst and political commentator, providing analysis for BBC, UTV and RTÉ across local government, Assembly, Westminster and European elections. He is also a regular contributor to BBC Radio Ulster programmes including Talkback and Good Morning Ulster.

Since 2015, David has been a part-time Lecturer in Politics and International Studies at Ulster University, teaching on the politics and government of the United Kingdom, Ireland and the European Union, as well as research methods. He also works with Politics in Action, supporting engagement between young people and political representatives.

David combines detailed political knowledge with extensive media, academic and electoral analysis experience, enabling clients to better understand political developments, anticipate emerging issues and make informed strategic decisions in a complex public affairs environment.
